Madie L. Dougherty - 2006
Thank you for visiting the donation page of Madie's Movers. Our team is named in honor of Madie Lee Dougherty - the mother of our team captain, Sherry Marlatt; the beloved grandmother of two of our team members - Jennifer Brewer and Diane Childers; and the great-grandmother of two additional members - Niki Johnston and Ty Brewer. We are walking to keep the memory of Madie alive and to do what we can to put an end to Alzheimer's, the heartbreaking disease that prematurely took her from us.
The last few years of her life, Mom (aka GA-GA) lived in her own "little world." A world she could not leave, a world we could not enter, and a world we could not share. She still had her wonderful wit and that cute smile that told us she was about to make us laugh, but there was no spark of recognition in her eyes. She didn't know us. She didn't remember us - her children, her grandchildren, her friends and those who loved her so much. We lost her to the abyss of Alzheimer's long before her life was actually over. We learned to say good-bye, even as she sat watching us from her "little world." As hard as it was for us, we can only imagine what it must have been like for her. We can only imagine . . .
On October 10, 2009, our team - Madie's Mover's - will be walking in the Alzheimer's Annual Memory Walk in Austin. We are joined by two additional friends - Mary Evelyn Marlatt and Dan Adler. Their lives have also been impacted by family members/friends who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Together we are committed to making a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.
Our hope, our dream, our goal is to put an end to this disease -IN OUR LIFETIME!
You can help us achieve our dream by making a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association in support of our walk. We are not seeking large donations - we would be delighted with $10.00, $25.00, $50.00 - anything you believe you can comfortably give. Every contribution will be cherished and you will be helping us in our fight against Alzheimer's Disease.
